  adrift at night on the water

there is the sound of soft waves
lapping against a small boat;
the stars just beginning to show
and the heavens afloat.

the wind brings a faint sound of
birds as they sing in the night.
the harbor grows distant, its
cottages twinkle with light.

there is the sound of laughter
far off and hushed voices heard.
oh I savor the language of life
without hearing a word!
