  wisely choose

so teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
- Psalms 90:12

how many nights have you risen
to watch the sun dawn?
how many days have you foolishly
    spent that are gone?

how many roads have you taken
that most would not choose?
there are only so many you know
in the life you will lose.

how many hours have you squandered
in buildings of men?
    when mountains and oceans
were waiting for you to begin?

how many storms have you watched
as they swept down the plain?
how many times have you danced
    in a gentle spring rain?

oh the chances are numbered
and few in the life you will lose.
so in the remnants of time that remain
    of your life, wisely choose!
